About
The Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Lisbon was established in April 2024 as part of a larger project, the ‘European Heritage Hub‘, led by Europa Nostra together with a consortium of 20 partners and supported by the European Union. The project aims to safeguard cultural heritage while contributing to building a more inclusive, sustainable, and digital Europe.
The Lisbon Hub is operated by the Centro Nacional de Cultura, a private cultural non-profit association that represents Europa Nostra in Portugal, in collaboration with the City of Lisbon.
It considers the importance of Lisbon as one of Europe’s oldest and most multicultural cities, long recognised for the richness and diversity of its heritage – factors which amply justify its selection as the location for the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub.
The establishment of the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Lisbon contributes to strengthening the City of Lisbon’s role in the international field of cultural heritage and leads to the reinforcement of synergies between the public sector, the non-governmental sector and civil society for the management, promotion and preservation of cultural heritage.
In Varietate Concordia
In Varietate Concordia is a new initiative led by the Lisbon Hub and Europa Nostra with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. It seeks to inspire reflection, provoke meaningful debates on the core challenges facing Europe, and ultimately drive action in defence of European values. It unfolds across three mediums: live talks, podcast interviews, and written columns. Leveraging on the Helena Vaz da Silva European Award for Raising Public Awareness on Cultural Heritage, it engages laureates from a broad spectrum of disciplines in dialogues alongside emerging thinkers, activists, or creatives, often from different generational or geographical backgrounds.

Heritage as the Soul of Mare Nostrum
On 26 May 2026, in the framework of the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2026, the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, Cyprus, hosted the second In Varietate Concordia Talk, entitled “Heritage as the Soul of Mare Nostrum”. The dialogue gathered award-winning historian, author and broadcaster Prof. Bettany Hughes and Prof. Dr. Hermann Parzinger, archaeologist and Executive President of Europa Nostra. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra and Project Leader of the European Heritage Hub, moderated the conversation.

Perspectives from across Europe
The European Heritage Hub is inviting Europe’s cultural and intellectual community to step forward and share insights, perspectives, and solutions for the complex challenges facing our democracies today, through the In Varietate Concordia initiative’s Open Call for Columns. The mission of In Varietate Concordia Columns is to highlight new and diverse perspectives on the key priorities that should define our path forward.

The Renaissance of Europe
In the inaugural episode of the In Varietate Concordia Podcast, Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires and host Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of the cultural heritage organisation Europa Nostra, discuss a life guided by a desire to share experiences, knowledge and values, and seek solutions for a world shaped by competition and strained by forces of division. The renowned musician reflects on her career, which has been grounded in a distinctive understanding of the relationship between artists and their audiences, humans and nature, and the multiple disciplines and perspectives that inform the organisation of our society.
In Varietate Concordia Talks
The first In Varietate Concordia Talk, “Europe, variations on a theme”, took place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon and was livestreamed via the European Heritage Hub’s YouTube channel on 23 February 2026.
Bringing together leading voices from the Iberian cultural sphere, the event featured conductor, composer and musician Jordi Savall; baritone and founder of the Centre Européen de Musique Jorge Chaminé; fado singer and curator of the Ponta Delgada 2026 – Portuguese Capital of Culture project, Kátia Guerreiro. The discussion was moderated by Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra and Project Leader of the European Heritage Hub.
